Hardwired Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Modern interconnected hardwired detectors that meet current Texas IRC requirements. When one alarm sounds, all of them sound. Proper coverage in every bedroom, hallway, and common area.

Hardwired with Battery Backup

Wired to a 120V circuit with 9V or 10-year sealed lithium backup battery. Code-compliant for new construction and most remodels. Doesn’t rely on you remembering to change batteries.

Interconnected System

When one detector senses smoke or CO, every detector in the home sounds. Critical for two-story homes — sleeping family members hear the alarm even if the fire is in a distant room.

Combination Smoke + CO

One device detects both smoke (photoelectric and ionization) and carbon monoxide. Cuts down on ceiling clutter while providing full protection. Required near every gas appliance.

Smart Detectors (Nest Protect, X-Sense)

App notifications when alarms sound. Voice alerts. Self-test reporting. Battery life monitoring. We install Nest Protect, First Alert, and X-Sense smart detectors with hardwiring.

2026 Texas Code Requirements

Texas adopts the IRC (International Residential Code) which requires hardwired, interconnected smoke detectors:

  • Inside every bedroom
  • Outside each sleeping area (in the hallway connecting bedrooms)
  • On every level of the home including the basement
  • CO detectors within 15 feet of every bedroom and within 10 feet of every gas-fueled appliance
  • Visible alarms in homes with hearing-impaired occupants

Older homes built before this code may have battery-only detectors that don’t interconnect. We retrofit hardwired interconnected systems through existing attic access or surface-mounted conduit where attic isn’t accessible.

Selling your home? Many Austin-area inspectors will flag missing or non-functional detectors as a contract issue. Quick to fix — usually under $400 for a typical 3-bedroom home.
