Why Generic Website Builders Miss the Mark for Contractors

A contractor's website has a fundamentally different job than a restaurant's or a law firm's. The person searching "emergency plumber near me" at 11pm on a Sunday is not browsing — they have water on the floor and need a phone number. The person searching "roof replacement cost" in April has hail damage and is ready to get three estimates. Your website needs to meet those customers exactly where they are, instantly, and make it obvious how to hire you.

Squarespace, Wix, and GoDaddy templates aren't built for that. They're built for portfolios and small retail shops. The result is a contractor site that looks fine on a laptop but buries the phone number, has no city-specific pages for your service area, and gives Google almost nothing to index beyond your home page. You end up invisible to the customers searching for you by neighborhood.

We build contractor sites differently because we understand the business. Every page is built around the way your customers search — by trade and by location — and the way they decide to call — on a mobile phone, usually within seconds of landing on your site.

What a Contractor Website Actually Needs

There are six things that separate a contractor site that generates consistent leads from one that just exists on the internet. Most web designers only get two or three of them right.

Click-to-call on every page. More than 70% of searches for home service contractors happen on a phone. Your number needs to be tappable at the top of every single page — not in the footer, not inside a paragraph. A sticky call bar is standard on every site we build.

City and service area pages. Google ranks pages, not websites. If you serve twelve cities but only have one home page, you have almost no chance of ranking in those markets. We build dedicated pages for each city or neighborhood you serve, optimized for local search with proper schema markup.

Service-specific pages. "Plumbing" is not a page — it's a category. Water heater replacement, sewer line repair, drain cleaning, and emergency service are each their own search query with their own intent. Each service needs its own page with real content about what's involved, what it costs, and why you're the right company for the job.

Schema markup. Structured data tells Google — and increasingly, AI search tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity — exactly who you are, what you do, and where you do it. Without it, you're invisible to an entire category of discovery that's growing every month. We implement LocalBusiness, Service, FAQPage, and Review schema on every site.

Review integration. Social proof is what converts a searcher into a caller. We pull your Google reviews directly onto your site and display them prominently. We also build in the email prompt and QR code flow that makes it easy for satisfied customers to leave new reviews.

Emergency CTAs where they count. For trades that offer emergency service — plumbing, HVAC, electrical — we build dedicated emergency service sections with high-urgency messaging and prominent call prompts. These are separate from your standard service pages because the search intent is completely different.

Common Questions

You own all the content — your copy, your photos, your brand. We own the proprietary build system and templates. If you cancel, we'll export your content so you can move it wherever you like. What we don't do is hand you over a pile of code and disappear — the monthly fee covers ongoing hosting, updates, and support.

Most sites go live within 10 to 14 business days of receiving your content and approval. We'll send you a brief intake form — it takes about 20 minutes to fill out — and we handle everything else. If you need to launch faster, ask us about rush options.

We migrate you over. We'll preserve any existing content worth keeping, redirect your old URLs properly so you don't lose search rankings, and handle the domain transfer or DNS pointing. You won't lose anything you've built.

On-page SEO — schema markup, page titles, meta descriptions, heading structure, city page optimization — is built into every site we build. Google Business Profile management and citation building are included in the Authority plan and available as add-ons on Growth. We don't nickel-and-dime you for the basics.

Currently we focus on US-based home service contractors. Our local SEO systems are built around Google's US local search behavior, citation directories, and Google Business Profile — which operates differently in other markets. If you're in Canada, reach out and we'll tell you honestly whether we'd be a good fit.
